Sachin Tendulkar turns 35 today and a good way to appreciate what Sachin has achieved for Indian cricket is to read what other cricketers, mostly his opponents have said about him

"Sachin Tendulkar was destined to be a great" -Barry Richards.

"Sachin Tendulkar is 99.5 percent perfect. I'd pay to see him" - Viv Richards.

"Don't bowl Sachin Tendulkarbad balls, he hits the good ones for fours - Michael Kasprowicz.

"It's scary, where the hell do we bowl to Sachin" -Allan Border

.

"There is no shame being beaten by such a great player as Sachin Tendulkar. We didn't lose to
Team India. We Lost to Sachin Tendulkar" -Steve Waugh.

"If I've to bowl to Sachin, I'll bowl with my helmet on. He hits the ball so hard" - Dennis Lillee.

"I'd like to see Sachin go out and bat one day with a stump. I tell you he'd do okay" -Greg Chappell.

"Cricketers like Sachin come once in a lifetime and I am privileged he played in my time" - Wasim Akram.

"The pressure on me is nothing as compared to Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin,
like God, must never fail. The crowd always expects him (Sachin Tendulkar) to succeed and it
is too much pressure on him" -Mark Waugh

"Everybody gets 15 minutes of fame. But if there's one person I've admired over a 15-year of period, it's definitely Sachin." - Brian Lara

"I'll be going to bed having nightmares of Sachin just running down the wicket and belting me back over the head for six. He was unstoppable. I don't think anyone, apart from Don Bradman, is in the same class as Sachin Tendulkar. He is just an amazing player" -Shane Warne.

"I saw Sachin Tendulkar playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife to come look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I feel that this player is playing much the same as I used to play, and she looked at him on Television and said yes, there is a similarity between the two... his compactness, technique, stroke production... it all seemed to gel" -Sir Donald Bradman.

"In an over I can bowl six different balls. But then Sachin looks at me with a sort of gentle arrogance down the pitch as if to say 'Can you bowl m another one?'" - Adam Hollioke

Sachin Tendulkar is cricket's God? Barry Richards.

You might pitch a ball on the off stump and think you have bowled a good ball and Sachin Tendulkar walks across and hits it for two behind midwicket. His bat looks so heavy but he just waves it arounad like it's a toothpick? -Brett Lee

You have to decide for yourself whether you're bowling well or not. Sachin Tendulkar's going to hit you for fours and sixes anyway? -Micheal Kasprowicz

Technically, you can't fault Sachin. Seam or spin, fast or slow ? nothing is a problem? -Geoffrey Boycott.

Sachin Tendulkar's life seems to be a stillness in a frantic world... [When he goes out to bat], it is beyond chaos - it is a frantic appeal by a nation to one man. The people see him as a God... ? Mathew Hayden, on Sachin Tendulkar.

I (Embarrassed laugh) am a normal person who plays cricket. I am nothing more than that? Sachin Tendulkar, on being told of above quote.

"The fact of the matter is that India still need Sachin in a big way. All this talk of the youngsters taking over is very foolish. The reason why Tendulkar is so important for the team is because of his ability to inspire others and make them perform under pressure" - In the "Times of India" of the infamous "End"ulkar fame

"Sachin has everything a top batsman needs. Tendulkar is a classic example of a player being so good that his age is an irrelevance" Akram says in his autobiography titled "Wasim". He also stated a number of examples when he and his team were frustrated by Tendulkar's batting prowess.

David Boon "Technically Sachin Tendulkar stands out as the best because of his ability to increase the pace at will"

Ted Dexter: (who chaired the panel, the Coopers & Lybrand award as the International Test player of the year)
"This year Tendulkar has been the batsman nobody wanted to bowl at. He took Shane Warne apart in India, which illustrates his genius."

M. L. Jaisimha "The more I see of Sachin Tendulkar the more confused I'm getting to which is his best knock."

Cricket Historian Vasant Raiji "I have always felt C. K. Nayadu was the best. I now think Sachin has the honour of being the most outstanding batsman of all time."

Mike Selvey
"Tendulkar is the supreme right hander on the planet, a focussed technician who offers a counterpoint to Brian Lara's more eye catching destruction."

Jeff Thompson "Sachin is an attacker. He has much more power than Sunny. He wants to be the one to set the pace. He has to be on top. That's the buzz about him."

Asif Iqbal: (after India won at Sharjah)
"He has given a new dimension to batting. Such dominance can break the heart of the best of bowlers. I was never tired of watching this wonderful batsman."

Peter Roebuck "Sometime back I had written a piece that said that Sachin's the master and Lara a genius with his head high up somewhere. That's it."

Steve Waugh "You take Don Bradman away and he is next up I reckon."

"It was one of the greatest innings I have ever seen. There is no shame being beaten by such a great player, Sachin is perhaps only next to the Don''.

"When it comes to judging the best among these fabulous band of batsmen, my vote goes to Tendulkar. He has an uncanny ability to come out on top under different circumstances and under different conditions, whether it is Test cricket or one day internationals. And more importantly, he has done this so young. "
Allan Border: (after India won the Coca-Cola cup in Sharjah)
"Hell, if he stayed, even at 11 an over he would have got it."

Greg Chappell , who successfully destroyed India's chances in the last World cup says "He is a perfectly balanced batsman and knows perfectly well when to attack and when to play defensive cricket. He has developed the ability to treat bowlers all over the world with contempt and can destroy any attack with utmost ease. "

Tony Greig "He is cool, has magnificent temperament, and is so mature you tend to forget his age. I can't think of any other example of a player who has so dominated the world before the age of 25."

Paul Strang "What we (Zimbabwe) need is 10 Tendulkars."

Australian Media "The most exciting batsman of his time because he finds the right balance between reason and passion, technique and power, nerves and placement and judgement that applies to all tastes."

Vivian Richards- Gilchrist knock revives old magic

Viv Richards was the original cricket master blaster,Gilchrist is only second to Viv

Sir Isaac Vivian Richards was the original great World cup cricket master blaster. The recent exploits of Gilchrist at the cricket World cup reminds me of Vivian Richards, the original West Indies cricketing great who taught the world the right way to play cricket

The one
lasting memory of Vivian Richards at the cricket World cup was the match against the England cricket team

Vivian Richards - The two Vivian Richards strokes I will never forget

Richards hit two shots in that World cup match against the England cricket team that I will never forget

  • The Vivian Richards straight drive that almost took off Dicky Bird's head

  • The Vivian Richards six to midwicket from almost a yard outside the off stump

Here is one of those incredible Vivian Richards strokes to be treasured

Kapil Dev's indomitable spirit-The Indian cricket team needs this

Kapil Dev-The greatest Indian cricketer ever

Kapil is,without a doubt, the greatest cricketer the Indian cricket team has ever produced

Kapil Dev's intense passion for the Indian cricket team, the dedication Kapil Dev showed, and his raw talent have no parallel in Indian cricket history

Kapil Dev- the world cup cricket tournament brings nostalgic memories

Kapil Dev was the Indian cricket' team's icon during the cricket World cup in 1983. Kapil Dev's catch of Vivian Richards and his 183 not out against Zimbabwe were the lasting images of the cricket World cup in 1983

Kapil Dev says "no" to stupid experimentation by Greg Chappell

Kapil Dev retains his passion for Indian cricket even after he has retired from international cricket. In a recent interview, Kapil Dev said that Greg Chappell is free to do his experimentation but not with
"his" Indian cricket team. The Indian cricket team needs a coach or manager who understands the Indian psyche or culture- not an Australian misfit who was not even a good coach for South Australia

A Kapil Dev like inspiring leader is needed for the Indian cricket team - not a goody-goody person like Dravid!

Was Shane Warne the greatest legspinner ever?

Was Shane Warne the great legspinner to have played cricket

Shane Warne was undoubtedly a great legspinner but was he the greatest? Certainly, a lot of young Australians do think that Shane Warne was the best legspinner ever, but older Australian cricket fans do think that Richie Benaud may have been a better legspinner

Some think Shane Warne was not as good as Chandrasekhar of the India cricket team

Chandra or Chandrasekhar evoked as much respect as Shane Warne among the opposing batsmen. To compare Shane Warne and Chandra is obviously unfair, given that the two bowlers were so different.Shane Warne was a traditionally legspinner who liked to give the ball a lot of air while Chandra was almost a fast bowler and tended to skid the ball through.Viv Richards among other great cricketers respected the leg spin bowling of Chandra to a great extent

Was Shane Warne better than Abdul Qadir of the Pakistan cricket team

Abdul Qadir was undoubtedly responsible for the revival of traditional leg spin bowling in the subcontinent and his google was incredible, but it is debatable whether he was as good as Shane Warne

Shane Warne was definitely the greatest legspinner in his time

In summary,Shane Warne was of course the greatest legspinner among his contemporaries, and cricket statistics do not lie, but there were other great legspinners prior to Shane Warne's time who were really great too!

Jayasurya's comeback- Can Sachin Tendulkar revive the magic?

Sanath Jaysurya has made an incredible comeback to international cricket

Sanath Jayasurya was almost forced to retire at the start of the recent Sri Lanka Vs England cricket series. But Jayasurya has comeback in dramatic fashion by bludgeoning the cricket bowlers around the world and winning man of the match awards all over the place.

No one doubted Sanath Jayasurya's talent-but the whisper was out in international cricket circles that Jayasurya was past his prime. But Jayasurya's recent performances against England and now New Zealand have once again confirmed that Jayasurya is one of the most destructive opening batsmen in world cricket

Can Sachin Tendulkar too revive the old magic

In his heyday,Sachin Tendulkar could demolish a cricket opposition in a matter of a few overs, but the cumulative expectations of his cricket fans have had a detrimental effect on his cricket game and once finds Sachin to be playing way below his ability

In his prime,Sachin Tendulkar used to treat spin bowlers like Harris with such contempt, but his now venerable niceness seems to be dominating his personality

Sachin Tendulkar needs to wake up and realise that he is one of the most destructive batsmen that world cricket has ever seen, barring perhaps Vivian Richards

Wake up Sachin and show the bowlers of world cricket that you are not always nice!
