Ajantha Mendis,the Sri Lankan Kumble

Ajantha Mendis is Sri Lankan cricket 's new " Kumble "

Ajantha Mendis has suddenly burst into the world cricket scene through his mesmerizing display of spin bowlers against the Indian cricket team. Ajantha Mendis is however more similar to Anil Kumble than his idol, Muthiah Muralitharan

Ajantha Mendis is not a typical spinner like Muralitharan or Shane Warne but relies on his incredible accuracy to always be a threat to a batsman, irrespective of whether the batsman is batting on 0 or on 176.

Like Anil Kumble, Ajantha Mendis relies on his subtle changes of pace, direction and length to fox the batsmen

Ajantha Mendis ' real challenge is test cricket matches

There are huge expectations from Ajantha Mendis among Sri Lankan cricket fans and cricket enthusiasts such as myself. Its only once in a generation that a classy spinner emerges

Recently, there have been fears that there wouldnt be any near term replacements to Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble

If Ajantha Mendis does well in this test cricket series against the touring Indian cricketers, his future is almost assured, since the Indian cricketers are reputed to be such great players of spin bowling

Ajantha Mendis has a real challenge in the current test cricket series against the visiting Indian cricket team, but he seems to have the talent to justify his top billing

Did Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar take drugs?

Did Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar take drugs?

Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar will not play the cricket World cup,2007.The official Pakistan board alibi is that Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar are injured and cannot make it to the cricket World cup

Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar injured at the same time?

Talk about coincidence! The Pakistan cricket board claim that Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar are injured and cannot play a single match of the cricket World cup

When players like Oram talk about amputating their finger in order to play the cricket World cup, the excuse of Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar seems pretty lame

Akhtar and Asif-How widespread is drug taking by international cricketers like Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammed Asif?

We are not naive enough to pretend that Akhtar and Asif are the only drug takers- Cricket is definitely another endurance sport that probably has quite a few international sportsmen to enhance performance, but cricket authorities such as the ICC do not seem to be seriously looking at curbing this drug taking menace.
Every World cup,a popular cricketer is made a scapegoat, last time it was Shane Warne and this time its the turn of Mohammed Asif and Shoaib Akhtar

What about the matching fixing practice?.. Well, the ICC is not taking this menace seriously either

Australian cricket on the decline?

Australian cricket team on the decline?

The Australian cricket team has lost the number 1 position in world cricket. Recently, the Australian cricket team has lost three consecutive one day international cricket matches to the England cricket team and two one day international cricket matches to the New Zealand cricket team

Australian cricket team has too many old players?

Suggesting that the Australian cricket team has too many oldies is the most ridiculous argument for the reasons the Australian cricket team is on the decline

The Australian cricket team should take succour in the return and success of Ganguly and other so-called old guys in the Indian cricket team. The Australian cricket board knows that there is no substitute to a winning cricket combination and it would be stupid to remove the few
"old" (read: experienced ) players left in the Australia

The Australian cricket team misses Warne,Martyn and a super fit McGrath

The Australian cricket team obviously misses Warne and Martyn, but what the Australian cricket team really misses is a really fit McGrath to inspire fear in the opposition batsmen. While McGrath is set to play his last cricket series in the cricket World cup for the Australian cricket team, McGrath needs to bowl with the same old venom- glimpses of which were seen in the recent Ashes cricket test series

In summary, the Australian cricket team may be on the decline, but has the mental strength to bounce back in the cricket world cup

Sachin Tendulkar Vs Shane Warne- Good old Sachin

Sachin Tendulkar Vs Shane Warne-will we see the good ol' Sachin

Sachin Tendulkar takes on the West Indies tomorrow in another one day international cricket match

Will we ever see the great Sachin Tendulkar at his best again?

The cricket purist in me screams that Sachin Tendulkar will be back for the Indian cricket team, just as Jayasurya came back to blast bowling attacks again- You just cannot keep a talent like Sachin Tendulkar away

Here is a short clip of Sachin Tendulkar at his peak- taking on the world's greatest legspinner ever,Shane Warne

Sachin Tendulkar at his best is truly incredible

Shane Warne to Mike Gatting Video-Tribute to Warne

Shane Warne to Mike Gatting Video- The greatest ball in test cricket?

A tribute to Shane Warne who is retiring from Test cricket after the Sydney test against the England cricket team in the last Ashes test.

Shane Warne bowled this ball to Gatting - which has amazed all fans of test cricket over the years. Mike Gatting was really one of the better players of spin bowling in the world- Gatting had tamed the Indian leg spinner L.Sivaramakrishnan to hand England a series win against India.

This ball from Shane Warne had Gatting dumbfounded -Was it possible to bowl such a perfect ball in test cricket?

Ashes 2006 won by Australia-as predicted by GameCricket.com

The Ashes cricket test series has been won by Australia-The Ashes test series score is 4-0 so far and will probably get to 5-0 in favor of Australia.

You should have read GameCricket.com's prediction of the Ashes cricket series,2006 - You wouldnt have then been surprised at the performance of the Australian cricket team against England.

Why exactly did England lose the Ashes cricket series against Australia?

  • Ashes Loss reason 1 :

The Stresscothick incident: Threscothick was England's best opening batsman for the Ashes cricket series against Australia- To come to Australia for the Ashes cricket series and then decide not to play was most unprofessional of Threscothick, irrespective of his personal problems. I dont call for being jingoistic, but citing personal problems while the England cricket team is fighting one of its biggest battles against Australia reeks of not having any national pride.

  • Ashes Loss reason 2:

Inept team selection and captaincy by Flintoff: There is a lot of criticism for Fletcher in the Ashes cricket series-but the person who has to cop the blame is always the captain - Mr. Freddie Flintoff. Not selecting Panesar for the first two tests against Australia in the Ashes cricket series reeked of a really flawed selection policy.Even in the fourth Ashes test,Flintoff obviously has a very low opinion of Panesar's bowling and gave him just 12 overs in Australia's 300+ run assault.

  • Ashes Loss reason 3:

The loss of confidence for Harmison: Harmison at his best is probably one of the best bowlers in world cricket- the images that we always remember are those of Harmison bouncing the cricket ball into the ribs of the Aussie batsmen in the 2005 Ashes cricket series. In the current Ashes 2006 in Australia,Harmison has been a shadow of his former self and seemed to be scared to put the cricket ball close to the Aussie batsmen

The good news for the England cricket team after the Ashes cricket series 2006:

The retirement of Shane Warne and McGrath is the best cricket news that England have heard for a really long time. With young players like Bell and Panesar in the team,England should hopefully have a better time in the next Ashes cricket series :-)
